🍩 The Donut Disaster
The oil is hot, the yeast has risen high,I read the recipe with a hopeful eye. This simple circle, sweet and golden round,Should be the finest treat upon the ground. But mine emerge, not puffy, light, and airy,They are misshapen, dense, and frankly scary. They sink like stones when dropped into the heat,A greasy, tasteless, unrepentant feat.Oh, ANGER! at this culinary block,I’ve mastered sourdough, I’ve conquered wok!I’ve coaxed the custard, tamed the tricky flake,But these deep-fried mistakes I cannot make!I watch the bakers on the screen, serene,Their perfect rings, a sugary, sweet scene. My flour flies, my sugar seems to mock,The ticking of the never-ending clock.I wanted glaze, a sprinkle, light and bright,I get a hockey puck of doughy spite.A tiny, golden tyrant rules my day,And throws my patient competence away. The fryer spits, the smoke alarm just screams,A funeral pyre for my donut dreams.I slam the bowl and vow I shall not yield,Next time, they’ll be perfect... or the kitchen’s sealed!
