The Dual Face of the Wild

The Dual Face of the Wild
The clouds break open, heavy and cold,
While a sun that warms begins to burn.
The forest breathes in a damp, deep hold,
Where water soaks every leaf and fern.
But what is this force we call our own?
A thousand lives in a single breath.
Where birds take flight to the great unknown,
While others bow to hunger or death.
We leave our scars and walk away,
Ignoring the earth we fail to mend.
Yet in every sprout that meets the day,
The plants are symbols of us, my friend.
