The Empty Seat

The Empty Seat
I sat on a bench when the sky turned grey,
With rain as my company, washing time away.
An empty seat waited, just there by my side,
For someone to come, with nothing to hide.

No names were carved, no signs to show,
But I kept space for a heart to grow.
Feet passed by, umbrellas high,
No one stopped no one asked why.

The clouds wept softly ,I stayed still,
Not out of strength, but quiet will.
Hope clung to me like the damp on my dress,
Each drop a whisper, each pause a guess.

But hours became years, and silence grew loud,
So I stood and left, blending into the crowd.
Not angry, not broken just tired of the wait,
Of holding out love to the hands of fate.

You came when the bench had forgotten my name,
When the rain had dried, and nothing felt the same.
And you said, "I’ll follow, wherever you go.
You’ll rest one day , and then I’ll show."

“I’ll sit in that seat you once saved for me,
And love you the way you once begged silently.”

But I am the storm now ,no longer the rain.
You may follow,
But I won’t wait again.
