The Encounter.

It was cold in late December.
That day that we had met.
I showed up at your work.
The reason why, I still forget.

Your eyes had caught my attention.
As you played off a heartfelt stare.
When I first began to speak to you,
You acted as if you hardly cared.

Well then it just so happened,
That we would meet on that new years.
You were with the man you swore you loved,
But he had only love for beers.

I didn't know how to act,
this soldier new to love.
But I knew that what I felt was pure,
I knew it was sent from high above.

Well years had passed and frankly,
Not a day went by without you on my mind.
Even though I had moved on quickly,
No one had beauty compared that I could find.

We both went about our lives,
We would speak occasionally, but it was rare.
Oh the conversations we would have,
OH and the stories we would share!

Time marched on as always,
In perfect cadence with life's snare.
Then somehow it suddenly happened,
It appeared right out of thin air.

A simple message from you,
Telling me of your present state.
How that man you loved had left you,
How you bore for him such hate.

He had taken you to a foreign land,
Only mere hours from your home.
Then he helped get your car stolen,
And in that same day, left you alone.

But you said you were optimistic,
You'd started school at one of the best.
And now that you had lost that fool,
You could focus on all your tests.

Then one thing lead to another,
We both agreed on a time and place.
I remembered being so nervous,
To see your hair fall in your face.

We met up at a restaurant,
An agreement we both made.
I had several beers before you showed,
And though you insisted not, I still paid.

Then I took you to the movies,
We saw our very first one together.
A CGI film of Jack and the beanstalk,
It was windy and chilly weather.

After the movie we talked for hours,
You sitting in your sisters car.
I was too much of a gentleman,
To even try to take it too far.

The next night we had another date,
And you gazed upon me so sincerely.
We skipped the dinner and watched another film,
Your hand touched mind and I couldn't see clearly.

I walked you to your sisters car,
Once again we spoke for such awhile.
Well as we spoke I was enchanted,
My lips had to touch your smile.

I kissed you once upon your lips,
You kissed me back for a second time.
I knew within that moment,
That I was yours and you were mine.
