A

THE EXTRATERRESTRIAL

I am the alien among you;
I am from somewhere you can't see,
Far from here. I pass through light;
I pass through matter;
For the cosmos engender'd me to pass!
Pass on through the mountains
and the vales of my heart,
It possess'd me from the start.
There is a difficult road
for those of simple heart,
A barrier for righteous thoughts,
whirlwinds in the deep recesses
of the enlightened idea.
Where internal division dwells.
And the voice of truth
sang over me, and her voice was heard.
Then the inhabitants were afraid,
and the foreigners were disturbed.
The birds began to fly,
and every creeping thing died in its hole.
And the chasms were opened and closed;
and they were seeking the truth
as those who are about to give birth.
But I was despised and rejected
in the eyes of many,
and I was in their eyes like lead.
Those who saw me were amazed,
because I was persecuted.
And they thought that I had been swallowed up, because I seemed to them as one of the lost.
But my injustice became my salvation.
And I became their abomination,
because there was no jealousy in me.
Because I continually did good to every person,
I was hated.
And they surrounded me like mad dogs,
those who in stupidity attack their masters.
Because their thought is depraved,
and their mind is perverted.
So I set a lamp for me
both on my right and on my left,
so that there might not be
in me anything that is not light.
And I was covered with the covering
of Spirit, and I removed from me
my clothing of skin.
For the instrument of truth
is in my hand,
and the voice of truth
shall not be silent.
I will call out to it with all my heart.
But they eagerly sought my death
but did not find it possible,
because I was older than their memory;
& in vain did they cast lots against me.
And those who were after me
sought in vain to destroy
the memory of truth.
But the thought of truth
cannot be prepossessed;
Raging rivers are the power of truth;
sending headlong those who despise.
It entangle their paths,
and destroy their crossings.
Snatches their bodies,
and corrupts their nature.
For the truth is more swift than lightnings,
& even more rapid.
I went up to the light of truth
as if into a fire:
And the Truth took me and led me:
and carried me across pits and gulleys;
and from the rocks and the waves.
(it preserved me)
It became to me a haven of Salvation,
& set me on the arms of an immortal life:
