The Front

Laughter was impeccable days before
Brothers cheering, hats flying sore
We're sent to the mud as we chant our way
Smiles fade when the bomb shelter caves
Tears fall to man again
One didn't last a night
The others are left to grieve a friend
Blood water splashes like the days
Sent out like rats to infiltrate
Disposable are we to the higher-ups
Crawling through the French to reach a gun
Bodies hit like moths to a flame
Brothers and boys falling like holy rain
Run through the limbs and ignore the screams
The sounds of bombs try to stop you reaching
The body under you makes you fall
You'd axe your way through their bones
But success is a forbidden thought
And then the sun rises, the birds are up
Life sounds the sun,
As it shines on blood
Bodies scattered like a means to and end
The fog is silent,
The air is still
For once
The Front is quiet
As my blood chills
