When he buried you beneath me
Your small battered form curved softly
I swore that I would shield you
From prying eyes and animals alike
You wouldn't have to be scared or alone
Because beneath my blooms
We would hold one another
One in life, the other in death
Surely someone would be looking for you
Miss you, all of you
And would come and take your hand a final time
So I waited with you all the while
All the while...
My blossoms changed
Flushed to a dark pink
Radiant expressions of basic soil
A tell tale sign you were being devoured
My roots drank in your vitality
The smallest of creatures carrying parts of you away from me
With rain, heat and time
The earth seemed to swallow you up.
And I sprouted further
Spreading shoots betwixt your ribs
Encompassing you for many a spring to come.
