The glass beyond

The glass beyond
In ribbons and lace, with a silent stare,
She twirled in a world that was never quiet there,
A dollhouse of shadows, too quiet, too near,
With Echoes of footsteps that never had feet,

Her eyes held the stars but were heavy with rain,
A smile stitched gently, disguising her pain,
Each room was a mirror, reflecting her fears,
And dreams became whispers she'd cradle for years,

She touched the glass walls, so cold and so thin, But nothing could let the real world in,
A prison of polish, of shimmer and gleam,
Where life never touched her, except in a dream,

She'd dance with her hope in a gown made of mist, Imagining freedom in every twist,
Yet morning would shatter the night like a spell, And leave her alone in her make-believe shell,

She waits in the silence, day after day,
Hoping the mirror will melt away,
That someone will see her, and softly implore, "Come back, little dreamer, you're trapped no more."
