The Internal Horizon

The Internal Horizon
I have spent a lifetime
mapping the perimeter of my own fear,
tracing the jagged lines where the soul stops
and the panic begins.
My mind is a master mason;
it stacks bricks of "never again" and "not for me,"
building a fortress so high
I can no longer see the sun.
But the heart is a restless traveler.
It does not recognize the stone or the mortar.
It looks at a wall and sees a starting line.
It knows that "human" is just a word for
a ghost trying to break a cage.
I am more than the boundaries I’ve accepted.
If I can survive the silence of my own limits,
I can touch the edge of the infinite—
not in the stars,
but in the terrifying space
where I finally let the walls fall.
