THE LAST RIDE
She walks down the road in the dark,
hearing the singing angels
from a distance so far.
Only one light can be seen around
it is her soul,
still attached to her body on the ground,
trying to take steps
towards the amazing sounds.
But she is held back,
her soul clinging to the last breath,
trying to hold on
to a body that can no longer be the vessel.
The angels’ singing grows closer
with each step she forces forward,
feeling her soul slip away
from the body on the ground.
She is unaware of me,
the only one who can see her
on the dark road ahead,
walking away from her body
that is already dead.
I watch as she takes one last step
and is submerged by the dark.
She is now with those angels
I heard singing from afar
one more soul on the other side,
as I so often witness
their last ride.
