The Long Goodbye

The long goodbye, a slow decay
Each day a reminder of what's to come
The pain of watching you succumb
A helpless witness to your last day
The memories of you, they flood my mind
As I watch you slowly leave us behind
Each day a struggle, each moment a pain
As we watch your health slowly wane
The long goodbye, it's hard to bear
A constant reminder that you won't be there
To guide us through the years ahead
To share in the laughter and tears we shed
But even as you slip away, we hold on
To the memories that we'll always cherish and own
For in those memories, you'll always be near
And the love that we share, will never disappear
The long goodbye, it's hard to accept
But we know that in the end, it's what's best
For you to find peace, and to let go
And for us to hold on, and learn to grow
For though the long goodbye is a slow decay
And each day a reminder of what's to come
We hold on to the love, and the memories we've made
And find comfort in knowing, you'll never truly fade.
