The magical rose

Granny gave me a red rose,
As magical as a genie’s lamp
An ice cream was all I could ask for.
I’ve always had it tucked
Underneath my dark hair,
A tincture of color in my faded cosmos.
At times, the prickles made me bleed
Provoking a desire of abandoning it
But it also alleviated all the miseries of life.
Rose became my intoxicant,
Devoid of lethality,
Could never be alone till I had this home.
Eventually, it lost its scent
And manifested discoloration;
The sky was gloomy as this dusk had no dawn.
I bade goodbye with white roses
On grave of that red rose.
Now, it’s petals reside in pages of my book.
My daughter is as delicate as that rose
Dressed in black she asks me,
“An ice cream?”
