Unbeknownst to you
I wear this mask
It hides the other me
The me you know nothing about
The mask is for my own protection
It shields my innermost thoughts
Covers up my true feelings
And conceals secrets I'm hiding
The mask helps me to cope
Removing it would reveal a hard truth
One that neither of us is willing to admit
nor face
That time and place will be determined by fate
Until then, the mask will remain
And I will continue to take refuge in its disguise
