The sap of the pines drips down the branch
the sky is blue and blanched
The wind is singing mightily, in the mystery of the sacred ranch
The night falls slowly, the wind is laughing, singing songs of glee
I feel the clouds echo around, whispering excitedly to me
The grass prickles at my toes, and I smell the pine and wood
I tiptoe across to a sleeping rabbit, with my black robe, and hood
Her fur is white and shaggy
and her legs are thin, with fur fallen out in tufts
And suddenly she stands up weakly
and let's out a feeble cough
I can see right through, to how weak she is
and I see her little bites and stings
I feel sorrow wash over me, and I pick up the small pathetic little thing
Its not too far to the old shack, so I carry her through the leaves
It looks as if she's going to jump
I have to help her before she leaves
I caress her broken fur
and kiss her ducking head
I take her inside the old wooden house,
and place her on the bed
she looks up at me pathetically
and my gaze drifts to her pelt
It's smooth and sleek and glossy
as if it was made of felt
I gasp in such a tuneful way
And I almost catch her smile
before she leaps around my feet,
in such a pretty style
she opens her mouth silently
and let's out a pleading call
and silence overwhelms me,
before she stumbles, and she falls
A sleek white pelt, flies through the door
and rubs her glossy fur
It twitches its ears, and laughs out loud
and let's out a mighty purr
The rabbit turned around to me
and flashed me a grateful smile
Before following her mate out to the trees
and I knew that was goodbye
I walked outside to the wet dew, that was on the forest branch
and thanked the stars in the sky, for showing me the beauty of the sacred ranch
