'Eliza, I'll call you in the evening dear, I haven't slept since six o clock yesterday. I'll surely call you da." Ben was almost beseeching Eliza. She didn't want to drag it longer too. But!, she was not sure how she would go on ti what she wanted to say. She didn't know how Ben would take it.
'Benny....' the same uneasy feeling, 'Benny.... I had to tell you something, and I don't want to keep dragging it......' Ben got a premonition that whatever Eliza wanted to tell him, was not something he wanted to hear. 'Hey, Eliza, we'll talk in the evening, I'll call you by five.' Ben tried stalling, but it was of no use. 'I have to tell you now, I am going out with my parents today evening,' said Eliza.
'Benny..... We have stopped speaking many times now. But, we patch up later. The last time we stopped speaking.....' she hesitated. Then came the prelim strike, 'I haven't been able to get the same feeling as before. That old spark, the excitement is missing.....' Lightning had struck, Ben could see stars in broad daylight, he was wide awake, he did not want to hear what she had to say, but!!!
'Let's break up!!!' There came the thunder. Ben plopped down onto the seat near the phone.
Shabana's smile, which was plastered from the time she gave the call to Ben, began to fade. She understood that all was not hunky-dory between the love birds.
Ben was mumbling something. It was not comprehensible... He put the phone back on the holder and sat there. There was uneasy silence, Shabana didn't know how to start.
Ben had an inscrutable expression, Shabana was lost for words, she didn't know what she coul do now. Ben got up, mumbled something unclear, and left. Shabana was left standing like a deer in the headlights.
It was a fantastic beginning to the new year, the last year of the millenium.
