The Onlooker And The Stars

Dark was I staring at the dark of the sky,
Swoon were the stars on the moon going by.
Pointed I two stars, that smiled on me,
One was lustrous and the other in high glee.
And in low pitch spoke to me the brighter,
Tell me O onlooker, on earth who is more brighter.
Is the ascetic that delve in the woods,
Or the mercenary merchant who deals in goods?
The wise, who show to all, a swollen chest,
Or the sweet singing bird, in the wonder nest?
Leader of millions but stern and bashful,
Or the crusader in battle; all so skillful?
Answer these all with your wit and wisdom,
Do the boastful on earth ascend stardom?
Stunned was I, frozen was my mouth,
O celestial lord, I bow head to your truth,
Surely perish on earth the Napoleons and the Ozymendias,
Ascend stardom only the benignant and
Ascend they like the pole star.
Then spoke the star that was gleeful -
Do any love the beauty that is scornful?
Love don't take birth if beauty has no dearth,
Beauty adores only the beauty of the heart.
