The overcoming

The overcoming

The one
who I love,
who once
promised
her heart to me,
tonight,
would rather be
laid up with someone else.

It kills me how feelings fade, promises are broken,
hearts are changed,
and the mind is made up.

But still love is claimed,
and it's trueness insisted nevertheless.

But then, if so?
Why
am I here
alone tonight,
while you are with someone else?
Why,
do I still
want
you
back
in light of your flaws,
yet,
you
do not want me back
in
light
of
mines?

Whomever is perfect, cast the first stone.

No matter the path or person--
There will always be flaws
and obstacles to overcome.
Then why
give up
on us?
Why leave me,
when overcoming
is a natural
part of the process?

Unless
you decided.
I'm not
worth...
the overcoming.

I didn't know love was spelled l-i-e.
Only
real to her
because
she believes it.
Just not
in us.
And I believe it too.
She has a wild imagination.

Forgive me.
I'm too naive,
and gullible,
and immature,
and inexperienced.
So naive,
that I love you
with certainty
and not feel conflicted
about that same love the next day.
So gullible
that I give you my heart
and mean it,
and not back step on it.
So immature
that I keep the promises
we made to each other
to be
chaste and committed.
So inexperienced
that I know
anything worthwhile
requires sacrifice,
compromise,
patience,
and
there will always be ups
and downs.
I awakened your love
with every intention
of loving you back.
You awakened my love,
and fleed,
like a coward.
