Take me too, hold my hands I wished all night,
save Me too, take my weights I pleaded all day.
I must have been cursed for being a girl,
or even worse for being your first.
The burden I wage and the visions I shear,
are of a loathing hands that I reach for in tears,
and of a loving heart that I hope for in fears,
but with my weary legs I followed and I bear.
as I evolved in age, I was filled with an unending rage,
for I created my trail, and I wrote the map on my own page.
in my outrage I sought out the wisdom of a great sage,
and in the light of his words I disengaged and broke out of this cage.
in the bag of my freedom I packaged my pain and my shame,
and by emancipation I gave it all up to the light of the flames.
unveiling my new sight I opened up my heart to shine bright,
for now I am woman no longer held down by the tale of the girl's plight.
