The Price of Liberty.

I write this for those who would read it, those of you who still somewhat have a soul.
This is the story of my journey to this point, to explain to you how much I paid in toll.

I had wandered in selfrighteousness, telling myself this was for the greater good.
Purging this world of wickedness, attempting to make it be as it should.

But on this my mislead crusade, I've unleashed an evil even greater still.
For up to this point I have done every wicked thing I sought so hard to kill.

I didn't do it for the money, no certainly not for some sense of martyr fame.
I didn't do it for what I knew was right in my heart or to somehow "make a name".

Yet here the reasons do not matter, I am how the kids today say "totally boned".
Bound to live with the guilt of my past, haunted and forever alone.

No, I write this for the young ones, the patriotic young women and men.
Who think the life of a soldier is a good one, I urge you; think again.

The dogma that surrounds it, the brotherhood of which you'll undoubtedly became a part.
Isn't all its cracked up to be, it will bring great struggle on your mind and heart.

Heed my words in this cryptic chapter,
Not unlike so many of my other poems.
Go to school and become a lawyer, a doctor or a wizard of some technological unknown.

For the life of a soldier, no matter how heroic or honorable it may appear to be.
Comes with the price of that soldiers life, in a sense; because liberty is not free.
