Hushed thoughts tiptoe through the
corridors of my consciousness as
silent footsteps of my precious
recollections echo through the sombre
chambers of my restless contemplations
The loneliness an unforgiving and
unrelenting beast ready to dismember
my most retentive memories, ready to
devour it, all of it, the dearest, the fondest,
the happiest, the truest
And the memories are alive, they breathe
and taste and touch, they hear and see,
they love and laugh and weep, they are all
I have, all I want, all I need to overcome the
immense weight of this all-consuming
loneliness
Would that I find comfort in death, for death
more than solitude, would be a fitting
companion
