Can you feel the cold grasp against my ivory skin?
Do you hear the heartbeat slowing as it freezes within?
Do you see the smile falling slowly into a frown?
In mere minutes I'm certain it will be turned upside down.
What makes this body wither, what makes its white skin turn gray?
How much torment can it handle before it just fades away?
So much sorrow it's suffered, so much grief does it bare.
The love it's given so much to those who don't care.
Can you see blue eyes fading?
Do you see the sky turning red?
Why is it this soul suffers, why does it feel dead?
His honor a badge, that so many ripped from his chest.
And the doctors and scholars all wonder why he's depressed.
He's suffered many battles for the weak and the poor.
He's gone through that Hell cause he knew he could endure.
But his misery didn't stop with the last bullet fired, now his battle went on long after war had retired.
He returned home to nothing that he ever imagined the same.
Now everyone who knew him wonder where his soul had been claimed.
Now going through the motions as if he's living a lie.
His only comfort at night are the tears that he cries.
Because he knows when he's hurting, knows when he feels pain.
Those are both just signs of his mortality being regained.
As he sits there in silence waiting for a lost hope, he watches his life play in the loop of a rope.
And he wonders, so desperately, could that seal his fate?
Could the rope he slips around his neck help forfeit this hate?
He steps off of his chair with that noose 'round his neck, this is his only shot at love, even if just for a sec.
Blackness dims his eyes, his breath starts to slow, he feels the price of loneliness taking its toll.
His feet slowly stop kicking and his pain is released, he no longer lives his life as a slave on his knees.
The family doesn't weep, hell for weeks they don't know, the soldier once so prideful has fulfilled his last role.
