The Shores of Lake Victoria
Upon the banks where the waters gleam,
In the heart of Africa, I began to dream,
Where the sun kisses the horizon’s edge,
And whispers of history dance on the ledge.
The ripples of Lake Victoria, gentle and kind,
Cradle the stories of ancestors entwined,
Their laughter mingles with the breeze’s sigh,
As the beetles race past and the herons fly.
Oh, how I wandered through marshlands lush,
In the chorus of nature, I found every hush;
The call of the fish hawk overhead,
Nature’s melodies sung, in colors spread.
With my feet in the mud where the lilies bloom,
I felt the earth’s heartbeat, dispelling all gloom.
There, the papyrus stood tall and proud,
Whispering secrets in the hush of the crowd.
In the markets, the laughter teemed loud and bright,
As the colors of spices and fabrics took flight.
From dawn until dusk, the rhythm would sway,
The pulse of the people, vibrant and gay.
A child of this land, I danced in the rain,
Embracing the storm, unfearing the pain.
The thunder would roll, a drum’s steady beat,
As I twirled through the puddles barefooted, sweet.
The fishermen’s boats rocked against the shore,
Casting nets woven of dreams, hoping for more.
Their stories echo with each splash of the tide,
Of lives intertwined, in this vast blushing wide.
The sun set low, drenching skies in gold,
Painting the landscape with tales untold.
The whispers of elders drifted in the air,
In the embrace of the night, I found solace there.
With every sunrise, a canvas anew,
The dawn’s gentle light brought hope, it’s true.
In the shadows of mountains, I sought to belong,
As the birds sang praises, unwaveringly strong.
In the heart of Kenya, where my roots intertwine,
I learned of resilience, a spirit divine.
The strength of my people flowed deep like the Nile,
In suffering and joy, enduring each trial.
Dear Lake Victoria, your waters run deep,
In your shimmering depths, my memories keep.
With a heart full of love, I embrace all you give,
In the cradle of Africa, forever I’ll live.
So here’s to the shores where my journey began,
Where life weaves a tapestry, hand in hand,
In every heartbeat, I feel the call,
To cherish my roots and connect with them all.
In the hands of the present, the future we mold,
As I stand by your side, so rich and so bold.
Lake Victoria, my home, where the wildflowers bloom,
In your heart, I am nurtured, forever in bloom.
