I

The Song of the Moon

I was born in a time turned legend by men
I was young in the ages of old
I beheld the beginnings of mountains
unnumbered
I watched the world's seas unfold
I was there when the land from one
became seven
I was awed at the beauty displayed
In the great, green earth and the glorious
heavens
In the darkness wherein the stars played
Then I turned my eyes down, looked back
in my shame
No beauty, I thought, I possessed
T'was then that I saw that great fire and
flame!
In whose light in the night I am dressed
Then my heart became glad and my soul
filled with laughter
My praises, I silently sang
To the God, Who all this vast beauty created,
And still me in the sky He did hang
