The thing with murky waters
Is I see nothing from the top
But the nothing that I do see
Is enough to make me stop
I dare not dip my fingers
Into the filthy sea
Instead I gaze upon the top,
Where I'm looking back at me.
Such yearning eyes of wonder
Eyes too tired to see
But within the sunken hollow depths
She reaches out to me
I cannot touch her reaching hand
For the water scares me such
But even if I could touch her flesh
I doubt I'd help her much.
You see she looks so longily
At my life upon the land
I bet she would do anything
To walk upon the sand.
And so I strike the surface
And I make her break and flee
Knowing all too well
I'll see her in my dreams.
Not dreams of joy or happiness
But dreams of dark descent
And when I close my eyes at night
My reality is bent
Into such bright refractions
That I dare not look to see
Just as I dare not dive within the depths
Of that dirty murky sea.
