"When you think of a doll, what do you think about?"
The classroom went baffled. "Huh?" The class asked.
"When you think of a doll, what do you think?" The teacher asked again.
A girl raised her hand. "Yes Katy," he said, pointing at her.
"When I think of a doll I think about little girls playing with Barbie and Bratts."
"Great answer Katy, Barbie or bratts. Right. My daughter is obsessed with Barbie by the way," he said.
The classrooom chuckled. "Do you all know where dolls oringinated from?" He asked.
The classroom answered. "Nooo."
"Well you all have a lot to learn in History. You know, it amazes me that so many people grew up playing with things or interecting with some form of object but do not know the history behind the object."
"But what kid thinks about that?" A boy asked in the back.
"Great question Andrew. I have to say, I was a curious boy of 5 years old back in the 70s. Don't get me wrong, but I did play with my toys like most of the children did, but every toy my mother bought me I saw something very special in every object. There were so many questions of curiosity floating in my brain, like where did this race car come from? Who invented it? What's the history behind my bicycle, my train station, things like that. I had all kinds of questions as a young boy about all things, but I used to go to the library eagerly desperate to find any types of historical books about hand made objects, but thanks to technology now you can find out a lot more things about history, and its extraordinary the things you find. But going back to the origins of doll making..." The teacher got interrupted.
"And I have to say, when I was 5, all I thought about was gettin some ass," Andrew joked.
The class laughed.
"You were thinking about getting ass when you were 5?" The teacher repeated Andrew's speech.
The class laughed hardly.
"Hell yeah, all I ever thought about was booty when I was a lil boy, still do," he said.
The class laughed, and the teacher ignored Andrew's remark After that.
"Don't worry about his ass Mr. Hanks, Andrew is a freak, all he ever think about is ass and titties," another boy said.
Mr. Hanks just stares at the two foul mouth boys, and he ignored both of them, and he did not give them a remark back.
"Well going back to the 15th century of doll making, dolls in those times were used in religious rituals. Traditional dolls was made out of different kinds of materials, like clay and wood that are found in different states and countries, such as America, Asia, Africa and Europe. The earliest documented dolls goes far back to the ancient civilization times in Egypt, Greece and Rome. Dolls have been created as rudimentary playthings as well as detailed art. Okay I'm going to use the overhead projector today, just let me hit the lights here," he said as he walked over to the light switch by the door to cut the lights and closed the blinds by the window. Okay, I'm going to show you all images of all the types of dolls that were created in ancient times."
This was really arousing Jasmine's interest. She did not talk much the whole class period. She just watched and listened to Mr. Hank's lectures. Even though she still could not get that puppet face out of her mind.
"Okay, so we are starting with the Bisque doll. Bisque dolls are made by their realistic skin. Bisque dolls was very popular in the years between 1860 and 1900 with French and German dolls.
They are collectible, and valuable. They are antique dolls. They can be worth thousands of dollars.
"DAMN," Andrew said out loud.
