I built a wall
A great and mighty wall,a fortress
Though it was not like the Berlin wall
Not even close to the famous Great Wall of China
Perhaps it was greater than both,perhaps not
For it was built for the most noble of courses
Protecting a butchered battered shattered heart
Minutes hours months years went into laying the foundation
Like all great impenetrable walls
But unlike other walls built using stone and concrete
It was built of an otherwise undiscovered material-
All the hurt the poor broken heart had taken
Every day new and old builders converged
Each one working on their part oblivious of the others
Of the very fact that they were building
That their comments and jokes made in jest
Their sheer coldness and absence-was the reason
Why the wall went higher and higher and higher
An extra and unique feature crowned its grandeur
A watch tower
Guarded by my insecurities and the keen eye of my anger and bitterness
All visitors were inspected
The perfect ones I scared away with my paranoia
The vile merciless ones I welcomed hoping for a change of scene and character
Then I watched them ruin what was left
I thought I was invincible inside the fortress
Reality remains that that's where it hurt all the more
To yourself with all that you are but still be totally defenseless
That is to say
The wall failed at its noble duty
