THIS MASK

The road I chose to walk in life
was the hard and rocky way.
The bends and curves slowly threw me off course
and put me where I am today.
It's turned me into someone else,
someone I did not chose to be,
now I must fight with all my might,
this anger that has taken over me.
If you could see behind this mask
that I must wear each day
you'd see the hurt and the pain
that never goes away.
The me I once knew no longer exists,
this mask has taken that from me.
When I look in the mirror, I am not there,
this mask is all that's left to see.
It hides the sadness and the tears
and it's slowly killing me inside,
and I will wear it every day
until the rest of me has died.
