Thy Shoes

Beautiful shoes, empty and still,
Await the feet that give them thrill.
Their laces slack, their soles untried,
Their beauty sleeps, until someone decides.
To step inside, to walk, to stride,
To bring to life the leather's pride.
For shoes, no matter how gorgeous,
Are nothing till they fit someone.
The comfortable fit, the gentle sway,
With each stride their value is realised.
In their ability to protect the wearer's feet lies their true purpose.
