Time's Expiry

TIME’S EXPIRY
O’ Time, whither from thyself dost thou go?
To the Vale, to the Tide, Eve or Morrow?
“O’ gone is Time” the naive Child doth lament
From his draining plays and childish sorrow.
Dost thou, Time, dwell in the grove or running brook?
That neither airy strain can on thee look;
The school boy, lazed as he does relent,
Knows not thy dwellings even from his book.
O’ Time, art thou friend to the jingling bell?
Or the cock that crows and has stories to tell?
If thou dost be, thou art a foe to man’s strife
For alone he tans, he farms and does sell.
Time, thou art Castle to the besieging mind,
Yet strong to conquer, hard to seek and find;
Gems, pearls, gold, silvers and treasures of life,
Yet never can kings nor peasants Time bind.
