To the one who stayed
thank you, thank you for saving me. for being my friend. for being there when everyone had left.
i always put my faith in the wrong people. i was someone who used to believe that going all in, giving all you have – that’s the way of love and trust.
ever so slowly, i started to build a wall around myself. i started to leave people before they left me. it was easier that way, you know?
you can’t be rejected if you reject them first. it made sense to me.
and then, you came along. you were everything i was scared of. i wanted to trust you, but i couldn’t. not at first, anyway.
you gave me every reason to trust you, and i gave myself every reason not to. i tried to sabotage this friendship… this thing that we have before you could.
but at every turn, you were there, holding the ropes together. keeping us together. you had so many chances to leave, but you didn’t.
you told me you’re here to stay. and you stayed.
you kept your word and your promise.
