trials

Oh, the trials and tribulations of a poet's soul
To be embraced by the community, is the ultimate goal
Words that flow like honey, and verses that sing
Yet, acceptance is a pursuit that can leave one clinging
To be accepted in the poetry world is no easy feat
For the standards are high, and the critiques, discreet
Every word scrutinized, every image analyzed
Every rhythm measured, every metaphor emphasized
The path to recognition is paved with rejections galore
For every acceptance, there are several denied at the door
The poet must have a skin thicker than steel
To carry on, despite the criticism that they feel
The expectations can be overwhelming, and the pressure immense
To be original, yet relatable, is a fine balance to commence
The poet must form their own voice, yet fit into the scene
It is a balancing act that can often leave one in-between
