One day I saw some DYNAMITE lying next to the railroad track
When I looked a little closer I saw it was a BLASTING CAP.
On it was written DANGEROUS this package may EXPLODE
I read the words but didn’t care I was an IMPULSIVE 12 year old.
So I took a LARGE STONE and tossed it from across the railroad track.
When the cap BLEW UP I damn near had a HEART ATTACK.
The EXPLOSION was so extremely LOUD I thought that I’d gone DEAF
I never really stopped to think that I could have caused MY DEATH.
It blasted SULFUR deep in my face and TORE open my left ear
When I ran home I HID and CRIED and hoped my Mother couldn’t hear.
But the INJURIES could not be HIDDEN and so my parents made me tell
Then they took me to the POLICE station and placed me in a HOLDING CELL.
I was only just a kid when I began to believe I was an IMBECILE
And if I didn’t learn to BEHAVE I would just end up a CRIMINAL.
Those two thoughts changed my CHILDHOOD mostly for the WORSE
So that once what could have been a HAPPY childhood just became a CURSE.
Now I have 6 CHILDREN of my own and my LOVE’S UNCONDITIONAL
For any of them to feel as I did at 12 years old would be UNTHINKABLE.
