K

two sides of the same coin

Hostile eyes burn into mine,
I can see she thinks I have no spine,
But I know this to be a lie.
She hates me, and I don’t know why.
She hides nothing, her disgust is easy to discern,
But that doesn’t whet my appetite to learn,
Why her contempt is more than I can bare.
Although I really do not understand why I care.

Why does she hate me so, what have I done,
How could this possibly have begun?
What could I have done so wrong,
For her hate for me to be so strong?
Animosity burns brightly in her eyes,
Easily penetrating my indifferent disguise,
She wants to tear me down, destroy me,
Until there is nothing left but debris.
She will only be happy with my destruction,
So finely ground down, unable to think about resurrection.
No matter how far I run,
Her disdain for me can never be undone.
Loathing like hers will never go away,
It runs too deep to ever be kept at bay.
No matter how much I wish for her love,
It will always be something I am unworthy of.
Not because of something I have wrought,
But because this is the oldest battle ever fought.
And in my heart of hearts I believe I do not deserve it.
Forgiveness is something she cannot permit.
I call to her, what did I do to you?
For you to hate me through and through?
But she never answers me,
Just stares back at me blankly,
Until I turn away from the mirror,
And her message becomes all the clearer.
