Uneasy lies the head.
He has to be a lion and a lamb.
Pull and push are his lead;
Else his heart like a stone would be numb.
He sees and hears them wail.
Comrades like the Greek 300 men,
Who stood and stilled the gale
That shot at him with a Dane.
His hands are bound in cuffs
With toils from She who must be obeyed.
His best he gives for the course
Which may not be his bid.
Uneasy lies the head they say.
The pressure when they come, you shudder.
Alas! 'tis him in them that cry
That really makes the head shiver.
