she walks the halls with her head down low
not knowing where she fits
where does she belong? where does she go?
pushing and shoving kids scurry through
a million conversations, and not one for her
too afraid of confrontation, not knowing what to do
she never stepped outside her comfort zone
not for family, and not for friends
she stayed inside, even if it meant being alone
she never spoke, never did anything
not even a word
well, not one anyone has heard
favored by teachers, unknown by peers
she went unnoticed for a long time
stayed in the back, all those years
now she's grown up, drowning in success
and even tried something new,
letting out feelings she was dying to express
she thrived, and business boomed
but out of everything
something still loomed
she was still that bashful little girl
afraid of judgement
nothing she could do about it
not able to content
she grew old, bitter and alone
she pushed people away
that bashful little girl
here to stay
