Unpredictable friendships

Friends come in all shapes, sizes,

colours, age and even species

A friend can be with you constantly

or they can be very far away

Distance doesn't affect a friendship

if they are true friends forever

A friend can be a giant seven foot

person or really short that way

A friend can be sixty nine years old

and they could also be only ten

A friend can be the four legged kind

like a dog or a cat or a horse

Friends can be very mellow and quiet

and could also be very loud

Friends can meet at a park to go

fishing or they might hang indoors

New friends are always welcome ,

some have been friends years

Old friends are worth their weight

in gold, priceless, one of a kind

Friends that can sense you're sad,

even before you say a word

Those friends try to cheer you up

and help you until you are fine

Some friends are irreplaceable and

can never be equalled ever

Those friends you can talk about

anything and no fear of ridicule

The friends that tell you really

bad jokes always at the wrong time

Some of the lucky ones still have

friends from back in high school

I am fortunate to have a couple

friends now both over ten years

Both of them stay in touch

whenever one of us may relocate

It hasn't been smooth sailing

with either of these two people

Arguments led to silence for months

after we began to disassociate

But our friendship persevered and

rose up and then we forgive

Many years hanging out either at

their places or it was mine

Laughing and joking , chuckling

and snickering , we had a blast

Sometimes drinking and toking ,

a cigarette too was just fine

For all of my friends out there , present and future
