Listen carefully, my child
To where the silent voices whisper
Wind is telling all the stories
Of the passage of time
Watch closely, my child
As the season start to change
The trees are standing tall
Ready for the storms to come
Feel the earth between your toes
Smell the storm riding in on the wind
Open your arms up wide
And let the rain wash away
All the superficial pain
All the minor tragedies of life
Open up your heart
To the bigger picture left unseen
We've forgotten what really matters
All this talk of money and guns
When was the last time a song was written
About the river, strong and wide?
Who last stopped to hear the birds
When was the last prayer to mother earth?
How did we stray so far away
From the true love she offers us
Commute, paycheck, dramas
This is what we hold dear now
But how many people kill themselves
In just a single year?
Did we ever stop to blame ourselves?
Did we ever stop to think
That maybe these people longed
For something more than work
Maybe they looked to the night sky
And cried out to the moon and stars
And begged her to release us
From this curse
But while she heard, she couldn't say
That it would all be okay
For we no longer understand her
When she speaks
So she watched with starry tears
And sister sun weeping fire
As another life was ripped away
In the name of livelihood
So many people can't place
That darkness in their heart
Clueless as to it's source
Or what it means
But listen carefully my child
To the wind, the rain, the stars
And they'll tell you all you need
Is to remember who they are
