As I stand in the darkness, staring
through the rusty gate
thinking of the lonely burdens, on
my shoulders as I wait.
So I peer into the shadows, which harbour more than just my dreams,
and I think about the past when life was more than what it seems.
Always blaming, pointing fingers. I ask
my shade 'Why did I hide?'
When it comes to what's important,
will my memories curb those tides
which fall upon my sliced up heart, like broken rain, or fractured choices?
And I turn my eyes away from that gate...
away from all those sorry voices.
'Come back to me!' I hear again,
like lost youth on the waves.
'Forgive our blackened minds', these
words whisper from the graves.
I so long to form an answer and to
soothe the eyes which cry,
but in the end if I walk through those
gates, I know I'll die.
'So abandon me' I beg my heart,
to form into a stone.
'Fly from my chest, and never return.
I always choose to be alone'.
Well, here I stand, forever still,
a shade beyond these gates...
as real life moves on before me.
It never stops for those who wait.
