wanting

I want to be a leaf
so that i can finally fly
over rooftops afar and wide
to leave the grim grime
of inner city life
where I'm just a number
a shadow in a queue
pinnioned to the earth
future a dismal view
let me fly away
to where the sun shines bright
and life for a leaf
is the prettiest sight
no more of cold dismal days
just the warmth of sunlight
and gentle falls of rain
i want to be a leaf
wanting to fly
its not much to ask
before i die
