We Are All Alone in This Together

We Are All Alone in This Together
Some nights
the world feels like a room with no doors —
just shadows sitting in the corners,
waiting for me to notice them.

I tell myself I’m fine.
That this heaviness is temporary.
That tomorrow I’ll breathe deeper
and my chest won’t feel like borrowed space.

But depression…
depression is a quiet thief.
It doesn’t crash through the window —
it slips in through the cracks,
sits beside you,
and asks why you’re still trying.

And some nights,
I don’t have an answer.

I scroll through people’s smiles,
the ones they post like bandages,
and it hits me —
we’re all breaking in different ways,
but pretending not to bleed.

Everyone saying “I’m okay”
with voices that sound like
they practiced in the mirror.

Everyone carrying storms
they don’t name out loud.

And somehow,
that makes the loneliness softer.
Not gone —
just softened,
like someone turned the volume down
on the ache.

Because the truth is —
we’re all alone
in the ways that matter.
But we’re also together
in the ways that save us.

Your silence looks like mine.
My fears feel like yours.
Your cracked smile
reflects the one I hide
on the days my hope
doesn’t wake up with me.

Maybe that’s the strange beauty of it —
this shared isolation.
This unspoken understanding
that life gets heavy
for all of us.

So tonight,
I won’t pretend.
Not for the world,
not for myself.

I’ll sit in the quiet,
let the sadness breathe,
and remind my heart
that even if it feels alone
in its struggle…

it isn’t.

Because out there,
someone else is whispering
the same shaky reassurance:

“I’m going to be okay…
right?”

And maybe —
just maybe —
that’s enough proof
that we’re walking this darkness
side by side.

Alone.
Together.
