Hand-me-downs and thrift shopped clothes
got no job and my incomes low
And i can't provide for my mom
And i can't afford to do anything fun
I dream of going to Disneyland
And to put my feet in California sand
Maybe just once see a band
But not a dime in my hand
And i'm not dying of hunger
But it can be a real bummer
When you can't afford cigarettes
And you dont got money to make bets
But soon it will be welfare day
Welfare holiday i say
When we can buy fresh food
And be in a happy mood
Pretty soon we'll be eating fresh muffins and icecream
And even tho the rich people can be really mean
They don't have a holiday once a month
But they've never had to live it rough
They never had to borrow from the neighbors
They never had to ask for any favors
But soon it will be welfare day
Welfare holiday i say
When we can buy fresh food
And be in a happy mood
I dream of one day leaving the country
But i'll probably never leave bc
Maybe one day the rich people will talk to me
But for now i hangout with those who know what its like to bleed
I lived homeless, helpless, no water, no heat
I lived years with broken shoes on my feet
One year i had no shoes
But ill stop with the blues
Because soon it will be welfare day
Welfare holiday i say
When we can buy fresh food
And be in a happy mood
