We're All Like That

She brought him in
One Summer's day
His clothes and sandles
torn and frayed.
Those dark blonde locks,
now brown with grime
The stature that had
Aged with time.
But mostly 'twas the
war torn eyes.
The things they'd seen,
The half told lies.
That bruised and
burned
the hope inside.
The semblance of
peace,
He used to hide.
Misplaced tears,
It would seem,
She used to stifle
His heartless dreams.
Where Folly would
Dance
With Strife anew
Amoungst the lilies
and honeydew.
We're all like that.
Too
Half-filled, half-dead
To trust the words
a kind heart said.
We'd like to cry
the tears Fear bore.
Yet our eyes stay
Dry
Remainders of the
War.
Sincerely,
A Survivor
