What Am I To Do

What Am I To Do
What am I to do
When love feels like a courtroom
And I’m always on trial?

When my intentions are ignored
And my silence is mistaken for guilt,
When I’m punished for trying
And blamed for staying still?

What am I to do
When respect is conditional,
Given only when I shrink,
When my boundaries are called ego
And my hurt is called weak?

Do I keep explaining my heart
To someone who listens only to reply?
Do I keep pouring from an empty cup
Just to prove that I tried?

What am I to do
When I recognize myself disappearing,
Smiling less, speaking softer,
Loving like I’m asking permission to exist?

Maybe the question isn’t
What am I to do?
Maybe it’s
What am I allowing?

Because love is not endurance training,
And peace should not feel earned.
A man deserves tenderness too,
Not just tolerance in return.

So what am I to do?
I choose myself, slowly, bravely, whole.
I step away from the noise
And return to my soul.

I will not beg for basic respect,
Nor bleed to prove my care.
If love cannot meet me in kindness,
Then love is not there.
