What the Windows Hide

They see the blue and call it bright,
Like I’ve been kissed by morning light.
They never ask what hides beneath—
What storms are stitched behind my teeth.
They see the spark, but not the war—
The ache I’ve never answered for.
The smile I give is carved in bone,
Built in a place that’s not my home.
I’ve begged for warmth with outstretched hand,
For someone who might understand.
A hallway kid, a foster face,
A name that never owned a place.
I’ve memorized each whispered lie—
And how they always say goodbye.
The tangled webs strung through my mind,
As I'm always, left behind.
If eyes are windows to the soul,
Then look in mine, and see the hole.
I gave my all to everyone,
But love is gone when day is done.
They say I care, too much, too fast,
That love like mine will never last.
But I don’t love for guarantee—
I love because it anchors me.
I don’t want perfect, don’t need praise—
I just want someone who always stays.
Not just inside a house with walls—
But in the way that silence falls.
Not just a bed, or food, or roof—
But something deeper. Heartfelt proof.
A place where I can breathe and be—
No mask. No fear. Just honest me.
I fight for that with all I am—
Through every wound I’ve learned to stand.
I chase a hope I’ve never known—
Not just a house.
But finally…
Home.
