what's the catch?

I thought i was building a crib for our infant love
i chose the best of the woods to build from
had to make it stronger than all those I had ever built
I put everything in the room for the child to be born
all the toys of care, love, happiness and everything were there
I sat in the room every single day
imagining how it will be like to carry the baby in my arms
tell her stories and make her laugh
she wouldn't know of pain, only love
the wait seemed eternity
months became years, and years, centuries
It was worth the wait i said to myself
It was only later that i realized
the crib was my coffin
and the room was the grave
the baby was never born
and the pain ate me up from the inside
i hear laughs from the outside
people having fun with their little babies
while I....I couldn't ever get right again
the wait was never worth it after all.
