When Love Stops Listening
I built my voice from patience,
Brick by brick of silent grace,
Swallowed pride like bitter medicine
Just to keep a smile on your face.
I bent my spine into a question mark,
Always asking, “Am I enough?”
I gave you my softest answers
And you returned them sharp and rough.
No matter how gently I spoke,
My words were twisted into crime,
Every mistake a lifetime sentence,
Every effort somehow a lie.
You dressed your anger up as truth,
Called it “honesty,” called it “real,”
But honesty doesn’t leave bruises
On places no one can heal.
I learned how to apologize
Even when I was bleeding inside,
Learned how to love without being loved,
How to stay when I should’ve cried.
Respect became a foreign language,
One you never tried to learn,
While I burned myself to keep you warm
And you complained about the fire’s turn.
A man can only shrink so far
Before his soul starts to break,
Strength isn’t silence forever,
It’s knowing when to walk away.
I am not weak for wanting peace,
Nor broken for feeling pain,
I am human, not your punching bag,
Not your storm to entertain.
One day I will remember my worth
And set my heart back free,
Because love that feels like punishment
Was never love to me
