WHERE IS HOME?

They say East or West
Home is always the best
But what happens
when home doesn't want you to exist
When you are forced to run
When you can't even walk
Nyumbani ni wapi? So let's talk
Let's talk about abdi and Fatima
Forced to leave their homes
Because they've been turned into warzones
Let's talk about Ali and Naima
Who are judged by their heavy accents
And dress code
Because based on the actions of a few
They are branded as terrorists
Let's talk about Mwangi and Atieno
Who are forced to leave their homes in search of greener pastures
Because poverty has now become an acquittance
Let's talk about Salama
Who doesn't even know how to swim
But for the sake of her 2year old son she is willing to take that deadly trip across the mediterranean
Let's talk about governments
Who claim to be welcoming to people of all nations
But they are busy shutting down their only means of survival
Putting up walls as if trying to keep out an animal
Separating mother's from their children
Just cause they don't belong
Oh let's talk
But when tears turn into oceans and the finger of blame lacks a direction
Who are we to turn to for attention?
So dear lord I pray
That you open the eyes of those who see blind
Those who think that to survive
They have to chase that American dream
Because their african dream has been turned into a nightmare
This is for those who struggle with mental torture
Because they've been turned into fishers of men
Body counts rising on the european Coast
But no one seems to be counting the cost of a human life
This is for those struggling to heal the scars of colonialism
But the shadow of slavery still roams by them
This is for those who risk their lives
Just to make others convinient
Those who have to constantly look over their shoulder
Because they don't know when the words
'GO BACK TOYOUR COUNTRY!!' will be yelled at them
This is for the confused generation
Who are always reminded that they are different
Those who suffer when they don't even know what their mistake is
This is for the lost stories
And the fading memories of those lying in unmarked graves
This is for those who still struggle to fit in
Those who had to watch the degredation
Of humanity through the eye of desperation
This is for you and me who have dropped their given names
Because we walk with tags on our skins
That have branded us
Migrants, terrorists,negros and slaves
Because in a world of diversity and man-made borders
To us east or west home will never exist
So where is home?....
