Wonder

Wonder
Quick to ask but slow to wonder
the answer shouting loudly only to go unheard
but the answer is not what you wanted
but for the whole matter to be forgotten
you don't want to fix the problem, you want to hide it.
but if only you truly cared, you'd open your eyes
see all the secrets, all the lies
but you didn't notice when I started wearing that bracelet, or when I stopped wearing shorts
but you did notice when I stopped trying at school or doing chores
you don't know because you can't handle it; you'd break
so instead I smile and constantly live life as a fake
I didn't say because you couldn't hear, but also because I couldn't manage
the words would come out fast like a bandage
so you don't know because it wouldn't make change
not because "she's at that age"
that age where she doesn't talk to people but is also too loud
or when she wears too much makeup but also "needs" it
maybe even when she acts too childish for her age, so she stops being and starts acting
all because you were quick to ask, slow to wonder, she acts as though everything is fine to avoid conflict or trouble because she's been told she's "at that age," so she fits the standard. she crams into the box labeled teenager, and she will until someone is kind enough to get in that box with her for the ride.
