Wooden Heart

I placed this beautiful heart on my shelf.
Holding it, tenderly, on my floor I knelt.
It looked like it needed some love and care.
So I cared for it, for love is fair.
When you find something that needs to be nurtured, you give it love.
For if that was you, wouldn't you want the same done to you, love can be rough.
So I took good care of the wooden heart.
Even though it was old and falling apart.
I made sure no one touched it, because it could break.
And like my heart, it can heal, but it can ache.
So I put it up high on a shelf, so it will look beautiful and shine.
And sometimes I hold it, and wish that this heart was mine.
My heart broke in a thousand pieces and nobody picked me up.
So I'm picking up this heart and calling it Love.
