I stood in the City of Christ
Where Christians Throng
In faith and song.
I roamed amidst the sights
And saw the passersby
Passing churches,
Monument and shrines
Of saints that stand:
Whose lives, once admired,
Now live still
In their hearts and sight.
As on one fine morning,
When I stood by the window
With eyes fixed to the road,
I saw a passersby-
Gray and frail.
She gazed at the institution,
I stood there, amidst the sight
Of Christ the King.
Her right hand raised to her forehead,
And the sign of the Cross she made,
Which touches me still
As she passed on.
This faith in the City of Christ
I find.
